Avoin Ovi

I was contacted by Jarmo “Jakke” Teräsheimo and he asked if I would be able to help his organization. As an organization they are doing this on volunteer basis so I decided to do the same with this project. I don’t share the christian values with organization but I do see the good work they are doing and can fully support that.

Operaatio Avoin Ovi ry is major food bank operating in Lahti and surrounding region. Operaatio avoin ovi gathers donated food from groceries and stocks to be shared for small independent organizations, which then distribute food-aid to people in need. As operations have grown during the years they had to invest in cold storage warehouse.

Before this website organization was doing it’s miracles with donations gathered from local congregations and OAO was doing it very succesfully. However new food regulations started to apply to this organization because of the size of operations. This website was first attempt for OAO to make case for itself to apply government grants and recognition. And for the first time organization was forced to articulate their mission outside congregation circles. I got to know organization, participated meetings and events as observer and helped organization to tell about themselves.
